We’re so excited to hear that you are interested in joining our volunteer team! We have many different volunteer opportunities, each with different roles and responsibilities. Although we of course welcome volunteer medics, you do not have to have any medical training to volunteer with us, as we have many other roles as well. The volunteer positions listed below are ones for which we are actively seeking our people to fill, however if you have skillsets that don’t match the positions below please still fill out the volunteer form, we would love to have you!
Medic
Medics will collaborate with other volunteers in Street Medics Austin as we provide first aid and medical support at local protests, events, and unhoused camps. If you are not a licensed emergency responder or healthcare provider, you must have or be willing to get your First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications and you must provide proof of training (we will train you if you are not currently certified). You must adhere to SMA’s Code of Conduct and Ethics, and remain neutral at all times, treating patients based on medical need and not political or other beliefs. You may provide your own first aid supplies, or use the supplies provided by SMA. Students are welcome!

You will teach classes on First-Aid, CPR/AED, Basic Life Support, STOP THE BLEED®, Narcan administration, and other topics. You must be comfortable speaking in front of groups of people, and you must adhere to SMA’s Code of Conduct and Ethics. All training supplies will be provided to you.
If you are not interested or able in becoming a certified trainer, we are also always looking for folks to trainer support volunteers to act as helpers at our classes, and assist with moving supplies, organizing participants, and helping out with other tasks as needed on training days.

Whether it is filling out Deployment Logs, monitoring social media feeds and messages, making social media posts, or handling other online communications, this position does it all. This type of support helps keep our teams on the ground safe, increases our intel streams, and ensures that we all know what’s happening as quickly and efficiently as possible. You must have access to a computer with a reliable internet connection for the time during which you are actively volunteering. You must adhere to SMA’s Code of Conduct and Ethics.

Please note that all volunteers, regardless of their position, will be expected to review and agree to our Code of Ethics and Conduct and our Volunteer Guide.
