Hey everyone, we at Street Medics Austin are excited to announce that we are offering more free training courses this April. These courses are designed to help you learn valuable skills that could be the difference between life and death in emergency situations.
Introduction to Street Medics Austin (Online)
Our first course, Introduction to Street Medics Austin, will be held online on April 15th. This course is perfect for anyone who wants to learn more about us, what we do, and how we work. We’ll cover the basics of street medicine, our approach to care, and how you can get involved as either a medic or as non-medical support volunteer. The course will take approximately 1 hour.
Good Samaritan Laws and YOU! (Online)
On April 22nd, we’ll be offering two courses online. The first is Good Samaritan Laws and YOU!, which will cover the legal protections available to individuals who provide emergency assistance to those in need. You’ll be equipped to respond to emergency situations confidently while minimizing your legal risk. This course takes approximately 30 minutes.
Handling Chemical Weapons Injuries (Online)
The second course on April 22nd is Handling Chemical Weapons Injuries. In this course, we’ll cover the unique challenges of treating injuries caused by chemical weapons such as pepper spray and CS gas. Our guest trainer Tanto will share his knowledge and experience in this area, and provide practical tips and guidance for Street Medics and other members of the community. This course takes approximately 90 minutes.
Stop The Bleed (In Person)
Finally, on April 23rd, we’ll be offering another in-person Stop The Bleed certification class at The North Door in Austin. In this course, you’ll learn how to recognize life-threatening bleeding, apply direct pressure, pack a wound, and use a tourniquet. Upon completion of the course, you’ll receive certification from our training partner, Come And Take It CPR, an STB registered education licensee.
